But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. 2 Corinthians 4:7 (ESV)
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us… Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV)
There are ministers out there who say I’m not the healer; Jesus is the healer. Hold on for a second, I thought Jesus said in my name you will lay hands on the sick…These two statements seem to contradict each other don’t they? The fact is, only one is true and the other is spiritual illiteracy. Let’s examine this further.
When you received salvation you became a new creation in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17a) This means that your spirit is now in Christ. Simultaneously, the Holy Spirit came to live in you so Christ is now in you. (Colossians 1:27b). Colossians 2:10 tells us that ‘you are complete in Him who is the head of all principality and power’.
The AMPC version puts it this way: ‘And you are in Him, made full and having come to fullness of life [in Christ you too are filled with the Godhead—Father, Son and Holy Spirit—and reach full spiritual stature]. And He is the Head of all rule and authority [of every angelic principality and power].’
It says ‘you are in Him’ and ‘you are filled with the Godhead.’ The Bible also lets us know that Jesus is the ‘head of all rule and authority.’ No wonder Apostle Paul tells us Jesus is positioned ‘far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.’
So let’s quickly recap for a moment. You are in Christ. He is the head of all authority and power. He lives in you. So where is all this authority and power residing? In Christ. And where is Christ? In you. This is why the source of the power is from God and not from us, is true. He can do above and beyond what we can ask or think according to the power that works in us, is also true. Both scriptures are correct. There is no clash of concepts here at all. They are in perfect harmony.
Believers carry the ‘exceeding greatness of His power’ as Ephesians 1:19 shows us and verse 20 says He worked this ‘exceedingly great power in Christ when He raised Him from the dead.’ Did you catch it? Resurrection life is working in you now because Christ is in you. You can now direct that power.
Therefore, it is accurate to say that we are the ones doing the healing because Jesus submitted His power to us. When someone says ‘Jesus is the healer’ they are referring to the source from whom the healing flows but forget that we are the ones to activate the power now, not Jesus. It’s according to the power that works in us, not Jesus. Are you seeing it?
Jesus is not healing anyone. He already did 2,000 years ago. We are the ones to bring His will to pass on the earth. He finished His work and commissioned us with His power and authority to carry out what He made possible though His death and resurrection.
We have only scratched the surface of this reality but I hope you are starting to get a revelation of exactly who and what you carry on the inside. ‘Christ in you’ indeed is ‘the hope of glory’
APPLICATION
Study 2 Corinthians 4:7 and Ephesians 3:20 to be able to understand the relationship between these two verses and realise you are the one to cause the ‘exceeding greatness of His power’ to be unleashed in your world.
