This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe to do all that is written therein, for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8 (NKJV)
Death and life is in the power of the tongue and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21
The equivalency of the Book of the Law for sons of God are the scriptures concerning Christ in the Old Testament and the revelation of the scriptures concerning Christ in the New Testament. Remember in Luke 24:27 Jesus only expounded on the things concerning Himself to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. He left everything else out of the discussion.
Why is this relevant? The reason is we need to understand what to put in our mouth before we eat it. There are two elements in the scriptures a.k.a. the Old Testament; the prophecy concerning Christ and the law. It is actually a painstaking process to manoeuvre through the scriptures and seperate the accusation of Moses (the law) from Christ (grace).
The best balanced meal plan for the believer is the epistles, ideally Romans to Jude. Acts is predominantly not a doctrinal book and Revelation is primarily a vision that contains heavy metaphors that require detailed explanation to decipher. What about the gospels? They are for the most part set in the Old Testament and are more a historical record of the life of Jesus and the revelation of the God-man Jesus Christ.
‘The new is in the old concealed and the old is in the new revealed.’ If I were you, I would concentrate my meditation and study on the latter of this statement. So how do we put the word in our mouths? It’s easier than you think. We simply say it and keep saying it until it becomes our consciousness and mentality. This requires time and effort on our part. We must renew our mouth as well as our mind.
David said ‘let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight O Lord my strength and my Redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
You are born of the Word (1 Peter 1:23) What did Jesus say? ‘Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.’ So your spirit is designed to feed on the word of God. We must all learn to develop a hunger for God’s word and eat it daily. ‘They that love it will eat the fruit’. What you constantly think of and speak about is what you will get. The saying ‘you will eat your words’ is actually true. Make sure they are not the wrong ones.
When we eat natural food, it is digested into our body and becomes a part of us. The same applies to spiritual food. Are you starting to see the importance of a balanced spiritual eating plan? The better the word content, the better the spiritual nutrition you are receiving. Don’t go for what is fast and convenient when it comes to your spiritual nutrition. Philosophy, psychology, religion and vain deceit are the junk foods that you should be avoiding at all costs if you want to have a healthy spiritual life.
Bon appetite!
