ON THE RIGHT TRACK

Saturday 21 December

A preacher once said “right thinking produces right believing. Right believing produces right speaking and right speaking produces the right results.” Does this hold up to the scrutiny of the Word?Let’s find out. We’ll start with right thinking.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. As one who reckons, he says to you, eat and drink, yet his heart is not with you [but is grudging the cost]. Proverbs 23:7 (AMPC)

The pretext in verse 6 is about eating someone’s food who is stingy in their heart toward you. Despite the context, the principle still remains. The reason this man was begrudging the cost of his guest’s meals was because he was stingy in his thinking.

How about right believing?

And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Genesis 15:6 (NKJV)

This scripture is about Abram who would become Abraham. When he took God at His Word and believed the gospel shown to him on Mt Moriah, he was made right with God. God even changed his name from Abram to Abraham which changed the meaning of his name to exalted ‘father’ to ‘father of many’.

This was God getting on Abraham’s level as it was a common practice in the culture of his day to have your name changed as a sign of having encountered a deity. It is not something however that needs to be emulated in our day for Christians as we are named with the name of Jesus. (Ephesians 3:14-15)

Let’s move onto right speaking.

Yet we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, I have believed, and therefore have I spoken. We too believe, and therefore we speak.

2 Corinthians 4:13 (AMPC)

A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45 (NKJV)

There is a definite link between the believing which is of the heart and speaking.

Romans 10:10 says ‘for with the heart man believes unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation’

This overlaps our last point which is ‘right results’.

Think about this for a moment: “confession produces salvation”. This is a principle that we all start from as believers but many sadly abandon along the way.

Salvation is all the benefits and blessings that are yours in Christ such as eternal life, healing, health, wholeness, soundness of mind and body, joy, peace etc. etc. etc!

All these things are accessed by words.

So I think it’s clear. Right thinking produces right believing. Right believing produces right speaking and right speaking produces the right results.

So what are you waiting for?
