Saying, If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord your God and will do what is right in His sight, and will listen to and obey His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon you which I brought upon the Egyptians, for I am the Lord Who heals you. Exodus 15:26 (AMPC)
Psalm 91:10,6,7
‘No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you.’
Exodus 15:26 has been a bone of contention amongst two groups of believers. The ones who believe God puts sickness and disease on people to teach them some kind of lesson and those who do not subscribe to this notion. As always, what does the Bible have to say on the matter? Let’s find out.
Jesus had an encounter with a man who had leprosy. We can learn so much about the heart of God from this conversation. We find it in Matthew 8:2
‘And a man with leprosy came to Him and bowed down before Him, and said, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean’
This guy was saying (in a paraphrased version) Jesus the Christ, I know you have the power and ability to cleanse me of this disease but I’m not sure if you are willing to do it for me.
Notice the words of the Master:
I am willing, be clean! In one simple statement Jesus showed the heart of God on the matter of sickness and disease. He is willing to heal all!
So what about Exodus 15:26 where God says ‘I will put none of the diseases upon you which I brought upon the Egyptians…’
Satan had not been revealed in Moses day, so in the eyes of the Israelites, Jehovah was responsible for the plagues, death and destruction. Jehovah was later revealed as Jesus.
For example, the destroyer was not sent by God but it was Satan who killed every firstborn in Egypt except for those who had the blood on their doorposts and lintels. Even the Egyptians who did likewise preserved their first born sons, the same as God’s people.
God is the author of life, not destruction. Jesus unveiled the nature of the Father when He said ‘I am come that they may have life’ and ‘the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them’.
The undeniable proof however is found in the phrase Jehovah Rapha itself. Many believe it means ‘I am the Lord that heals you’ but it is much bigger than that. Others say it means refers to Jehovah being doctor or physician who cure you.
These are all related but are far lesser truths. You ready for it? The original text is ‘the Lord my immunity’. He doesn’t put diseases on his children to teach them a lesson, He immunises them from ever having the sickness or disease in the first place!
Now you can understand David in Psalm 91. He knew that in Egypt the blood of a lamb made Israel immune to death. You can’t get more sick than dead. If the blood of a lamb can thwart sickness, disease pestilence and death, how much more the blood of Jesus Christ applied to the door of our hearts.
Question. Why would God immunise His people and then put sickness and disease on them? It makes no sense. If only the Body of Christ had grasped this revelation of ‘The Lord my immunity’ many would not be suffering at the hands of ‘pharmakeia’.
If God could take 3 million Israelites out of Egypt which is a type of ‘the world’s system’ and keep them sickness and disease free for forty years in the wilderness purely by His presence, what can He do for you who carry Jehovah Rapha, ‘The Lord your immunity’ in your physical body now that you are joined to the Lord. Selah.
APPLICATION
Become aware that your body has been immunised permanently by the blood of Jesus who bore your infirmities, diseases and sicknesses on His body so you wouldn’t have to bear them on yours.
