HE WENT BEYOND THE TARGET

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV)

and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power,

which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, Ephesians 1:19-20 (NKJV)

Yesterday we touched on the ‘dunamis’ power that is resident in Christ, in you, and that speaking in tongues releases that dynamic power. But to fully understand what is transpiring, it is vital that we look at one more key word in relation to prayer.

The word ‘exceeding’ in Greek is Hyperballo and it means to throw beyond the mark or target, excel, surpass or transcend. What does this mean to us? Here is an example. Have you ever watched the shot put event in the Olympic Games? Each competitor tries to throw beyond their rival to win the gold medal. There is also a world record mark that they are attempting to exceed or surpass to break the world record.

This is a crude analogy in comparison to what happened when the ‘dynamite’ power of God raised Jesus from the dead, although the principle is the same. Let me explain. The target or mark was salvation, but the power was so immense that it went beyond salvation. It exceeded or surpassed the target acquired and transcended it.

The power went beyond Christ and was directed toward us and has touched every part of our lives over and above merely being rescued from destruction. He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ and given us eternal life to have and enjoy to the full in the here and now etc.

Now you understand the characteristics of his exceeding power, let’s apply it to praying in the Spirit. It’s actually quite simple. When we are praying in tongues with a particular situation in mind and stir up the Holy Spirit, the power being generated to ‘detonate’ that problem moves upon every other area that we were not focusing on in the prayer.

You might have been praying for a change in a relationship but the effect of your prayer is working to solve a challenge in your finances or health by virtue of the power you have produced from your spirit in the place of prayer.

No wonder Ephesians 3:20 says exceeding, abundantly above all we can ask or think… This means you don’t even have to think about or mention something in prayer when you pray in other tongues and it can be taken care of because you ‘powered up’ your spirit.

It’s easy to see from this scripture that the majority of our prayer lives should be in other tongues to transcend our limited understanding. Apostle Paul said, ‘I thank my God I speak in tongues more than you all. Now you are beginning to know why.

Review yesterday’s devotion together with this one and study the scriptures for yourself to gain a deeper revelation of the power that exceeds, that is in Christ, in you.
